How Can i use a wireless adapter as a accses point ?

i have a pc that is hooked up to a dsl modem it has a usb wifi adaptor on it and i have a laptop with wifi i can access the net tro it but i want to make the adaptor a open access point how do i do that?

I've done this. The case was when I was sharing a hotel room with another person and we both had notebooks. There was a single network cable and I didn't have a hub. Instead of waiting for the other person to finish, I set up my notebook to share the connection on wireless. See the link below for the article I used to set it up.

but what you can do is make an ad-hoc network betwen them

set both in the wifi settings of your adapter on both computers to the channel u want

like mine is channel 11

there are only 11 channels
set them both on the same channel

but BEWARE: you cannot do this with the wifi software built into win xp

the 2 computers (or 1 if using wifi) on the taskbar by the clock this is the built in software

but you cannot use the internet over an ad hoc network

its only for sharing files
