Do more graphics cards mean better quality graphics?

Hi, I saw a system with more than one discrete graphics cards attached only to one monitor. Someone said that even if only one screen is attached, more graphics cards mean better graphics. Is this true? Do they combine their power or something like that?

If you have nVidia its called SLI or ATI has crossfire or something like that. All it does is link two video cards so they will give double the normal video processing power for whatever graphics application. Also the monitor is not hooked up to them both at the same time, the video cards are connected by a small link cable and the monitor is plugged into the primary video card. (Your motherboard also has to support this function.)

thats 3 graphics cards in sli most people buy one 8800 gt cause it can play all the new games on high and when more come out you can buy another one and duel wield them in sli for better performance if you have another pcie slot on your motherboard only the 8800gtx and the 8800 ultra can be 3 tri sli

yea with more graphics cards you can hook up more monitors or for example connect 2 video cards to 1 monitor for those that support it
